**Position Overview:**
The Parliamentarian of OCES PTA plays a crucial role in ensuring that all meetings and proceedings are conducted in accordance with established rules and procedures. This position is vital for maintaining order, fairness, and adherence to PTA bylaws and parliamentary principles.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Meeting Management:**
– Attend all board meetings and general membership meetings to provide guidance on parliamentary procedures.
– Ensure that meetings are conducted in accordance with PTA bylaws, Robert’s Rules of Order, and other governing documents.
– Assist the president in creating meeting agendas and preparing meeting materials.
2. **Bylaws and Governance:**
– Serve as a resource on PTA bylaws and amendments, providing guidance on interpretation and compliance.
– Review proposed amendments to bylaws and ensure proper procedures are followed for adoption.
3. **Elections and Nominations:**
– Oversee the election process, ensuring fairness and adherence to election procedures outlined in the bylaws.
– Facilitate the nominations process and ensure all candidates meet eligibility requirements.
– Maintain records of current officers and committee chairs.
4. **Conflict Resolution:**
– Mediate disputes or conflicts that arise during meetings, ensuring all voices are heard and resolutions are reached in accordance with parliamentary procedures.
– Provide guidance on appropriate procedures for handling motions, amendments, and points of order.
5. **Training and Education:**
– Conduct orientations or training sessions for board members and committee chairs on parliamentary procedures and PTA governance.
– Stay informed about updates or changes in parliamentary procedure and advise the board accordingly.
**Qualifications:**
– Familiarity with parliamentary procedure, preferably certified or trained in Robert’s Rules of Order.
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
– Ability to maintain neutrality and uphold the principles of fairness and inclusivity.
– Experience serving on a PTA board or similar governance role preferred.
– Commitment to the mission and goals of OCES PTA.
**Term and Time Commitment:**
– The Parliamentarian serves a term as defined by the OCES PTA bylaws.
– Time commitment includes attending board meetings, general membership meetings, and providing guidance on parliamentary matters as needed throughout the year.
